Oh, what a rough couple of weeks it has been! The boyfriend had more teeth pulled on Monday - he's been having so many teeth problems from an issue he was born with, that the dentist recommended just having them all pulled and fitting dentures, said it would have him a lot of pain in the future. It looks like that's the path he may be taking, I don't blame him either, teeth pain is so terrible and he shouldn't have to keep going through it over and over again.

Wednesday was also the six year anniversary of my mom's death. She passed away from a long and hard fight with lung cancer, she was such a strong woman to go through all the treatments that those doctors put her through one after another.  My sister and I stayed up late all night talking and keeping each other company online. Keeping her and our dad and all the good times we had. My mother was such an amazing crafter and I used to watch in awe at the stuff she made .. and she could do everything! Sewing, crochet, knitting, etc.. there was just so much much she did! She always tried to teach me things then, but back then I would just rather watch then want to do it, and I got so easily aggravated as a kid I did want to bother with it. So now that I I'm doing all this crafting and crocheting myself now as an adult, while it's not something we can physically do together, I feel like she's there with me when I'm working away on my projects. :)

Me, my mom & my younger sister in our last picture together. :) She was such a beautiful woman!

On a happier note, I had nephews birthdays to make presents for! And since they all love Angry Birds so much, they each got a hat from me! The smiles I got when they got them made all the work worth while and my niece tells me the baby goes to sleep with his on every night because he refuses to take it off! How cute!

I had a lot of fun making them! I think I like the red one best but I love them all!

Adventures in sewing...

So, I decided to take on the Crochet Hobo Bag that I have been steering away from for weeks. I've been wanting to try it, but it was lined and involves sewing... and I don't sew.  Well, I didn't sew. I have no sewing machine, except for this little Singer Sew Quick majig that my mother in law got my for Christmas one year. I actually found some use of it in this adventure though, after realizing I was threading it backwards ahaha. There was a lot of hand sewing involved too.
So here was are as I started my adventure. The crocheting part was easy and I whipped through this pretty quickly.

It didn't take long and I was finished with the body of the bag! Here is where I started getting scared
about what would happen next. I started with pink lining, but I messed it up pretty quick after an hour
or so of trying. I got aggravated and spent some time looking through materials I had in my stash. I
found a nice velvety black shirt that is way too large for me and been sitting for years. I measured it up
and things seemed to flow much better this try.

I got the sides and top sewed together and sewed it to the bag. I managed to not poke my
own fingers the entire time I hand sewed this on! I sat for a long while admiring my work and
being proud of my sewing attempt.

A pair of old pants, again way too large, became the "ribbon" for my bag.

Here is the ribbon weaved in to the top shell row and tied into a pretty bow.

Since I've been using what I'd had laying around the house, I found some extra
keyrings I had laying around the house, SCed around on side on each to hold
it to the bag and then made 3 long chains that I braided and attached to the other
side of the keyring for the handle. I got the idea for this from the way Crochetbug

did her handles for her own Hobo bag. :)

And there is the completely finished bag! I am so proud of myself for finally learning to sew.. even if it was just simple sewing but still. It so pretty, I want to line all my bags now, even if I don't like sewing much. This is definitely my new purse to tote around. It holds everything and still has some room for anything else I need in there. :)
Another busy week of kids, crocheting and life! My boyfriend has been dealing with major teeth pain and ended up having to have a whole seven teeth removed. It's been quite a time, but I am ready for him to be feeling better and I know he is too. Thankfully, he has another appointment this afternoon so hopefully they can tell him why he's still in so much pain that he can't even keep his food down.  I have also finally started with potty training with my little monkey. He is two and we are having issues with him keeping his clothes and diaper on, so I decided it was time start. He hates having to stop what he's doing to sit down on the potty but he has done what he needed to do three times now. :) I'm proud of him!

Onto some projects I've done this week! :) I don't even know how I found the time to get so much done this week with as busy as I have been!

This bag I did for my boyfriend's little sister's birthday. She chose the colours and

everything. :). I can't wait to send it to her this week! I did it in RHSS in Real Teal
and Spring Green. I did the handle in SCs with 2 strands, one in the teal and one in
 black, to make it sturdier.

This bag was made for my sister-in-law who just went through a major
knee surgery and is unable to move around much on her own for a bit.
A few months ago she mentioned she wanted a bag like one I have but
in purple and black, so this is what I came up with. :)
My daughter loved her pink & vanilla cupcake beanie so much so begged
me to make her another one with colours so picked out. She chose the Purple
Tones and a brown (which label I lost) for chocolate, both RHSS.
In Hot Red & Black RHSS. A grocery bag holder for my little sister's kitchen.
A purple, white and black mix I had in my scraps that my little girl asked me
to make her a toy net out of since her pink one was starting to get too full
of toys.

Last but not least, the Easter bunnies I made for my kids this year!  I used the
Spring Bunny pattern. It was quick and fun to do and love kids loved them! :)

Whew, that's as far as I got for this week. :) Way more then I thought I would get done in this busy week that's for sure! Not to mention I was up until very late last night starting a Crochet Hobo Bag.. the crochet part of the bag was the easy part for me. I do not sew... at all.... unless you count sewing my crochet projects together.. but as for lining? Ahahaha. My next post will be about that fun adventure!
